The Ottawa Classical Choir would like to thank all of you for making our concert “Finest Moments from Messiah” a resounding success.
As member of the Societé philharmonique du Nouveau Monde, the Ottawa Classical Choir performs its concert in Ottawa, Montreal, Sainte Thérèse and Mont Tremblant. The 200 member choir presents major choral works under the direction of Michel Brousseau along with guest soloists and musicians.
In May 2015, the choir will be joined by a percussion ensemble, two pianists and 3 soloists for performance of two major works from the 20th century—Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” and Igor Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms”. This concert promises to be a memorable event for everyone.
“Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff has become a standard in the classical repertoire. The opening and closing movements, “O Fortuna,” has been used in numerous films making it almost popular music. Although this is a 20 th-century work, it is based on dances and airs from the 11, th 12th and 13th centuries.
Igor Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms” is a three movement choral symphony also written in the 20th century. Stravinsky sought to make the Psalms sing. The large choir, in plainchant like phrases, brings to mind the ambiance of great cathedrals.
In spring 2015, performances will be presented in the following locations:
