Over there:Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle
The Ottawa Classical Choir / New World Philharmonic Society present Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle on May 18, 2019. Under the direction of Michel Brousseau, the work was performed by 150 choristers, accompanied by two pianos and harmonium.
Rossini, in applying the final touches to his masterpiece that he affectionately and humorously termed his “last sin of old age”, was unsure whether to consider it “sacred or sacrilegious.”

NULLBeethoven’s Missa Solemnis
Saturday, May 23, 2020 @ 8:00 pm
Carlton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, 355 Cooper Street, Ottawa, ON
Beethoven composed his great Missa solemnis (in D major) between 1819 and 1825, around the time of his Ninth Symphony. As one of his crowning achievements, rooted in the longest tradition of sacred music, and set for four soloists, a large chorus and a full orchestra, its glorious music pushes singers and players alike to the limits of their capabilities. It is perhaps for that reason that it is not regularly performed and is not as well known as his symphonies. The occasion of the 250th anniversary ofBeethoven’s birth seems perfect for the Ottawa Classical Choir and the Société philharmonique du Nouveau-Monde to perform this monumental work for the Ottawa public.

To open our 2017-2018 concert season, the Ottawa Classical Choir (OCC)/New World Philharmonic Society will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria which is probably his best known sacred work.
The wonderfully sunny nature of the Gloria, with its distinctive melodies and rhythms, is characteristic of all of Vivaldi’s music, giving it an immediate and universal appeal.
Along with this very popular classical work, the OCC will also perform Schubert’s Mass No. 4 in C major. This Mass possesses an overwhelming energy, exuberance and almost uncontainable excitement.

Dominion-Chalmers United Church, 355 Cooper St, Ottawa
The Ottawa Classical Choir, member of the Société Philharmonique du Nouveau Monde (SPNM), is proud to present the music of one of the world’s most loved choral composer, John Rutter. Our concert program features two of his most renowned and most loved works, the Gloria and the Magnificat.

John Rutter’s Gloria was a milestone in his career and remains a favorite with choirs worldwide for its freshness, drama and sheer beauty.
The Magnificat is a musical setting of the biblical canticle of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Rutter’s Magnificat is intended to evoke the spirit of the many festive celebrations held throughout Europe in past centuries in honor of the Virgin Mary. To this end, the work is full of energetic and strong melodies.
This promises to be a wonderful evening of truly magnificent music. See you May 21st!

NULLGLORIA
Saturday December 5, 2015@ 7:30pm
Dominion-Chalmers United Church, 355 Cooper St, Ottawa, ON
The Ottawa Classical Choir and our sister choirs are proud to present “GLORIA” this coming December. Two hundred voices will perform Gloria by Karl Jenkins along with Gloria by Francis Poulenc.
Completed in 2010, and premiered the same year in the UK, Karl Jenkins’s Gloria has as its base the text of the Gloria section of the Latin mass and extends it with other texts, Psalm 150, Psalm 144 and the First Book of Chronicles.
Francis Poulenc’s Gloria takes the listener on a kaleidoscopic journey, constantly changing from dense to light. Composed in 1959, it enjoyed immediate acclaim and has remained a favourite with performers and audiences ever since its 1961 premiere in Boston.

Monette Comeau
As member of the Societé philharmonique du Nouveau Monde, the Ottawa Classical Choir performs its concert in Ottawa, Montreal, Sainte Thérèse and Mont Tremblant. The 200 member choir presents major choral works under the direction of Michel Brousseau along with guest soloists and musicians.
In May 2015, the choir will be joined by a percussion ensemble, two pianists and 3 soloists for performance of two major works from the 20th century—Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” and Igor Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms”. This concert promises to be a memorable event for everyone.
“Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff has become a standard in the classical repertoire. The opening and closing movements, “O Fortuna,” has been used in numerous films making it almost popular music. Although this is a 20 th-century work, it is based on dances and airs from the 11, th 12th and 13th centuries.
Igor Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms” is a three movement choral symphony also written in the 20th century. Stravinsky sought to make the Psalms sing. The large choir, in plainchant like phrases, brings to mind the ambiance of great cathedrals.
In spring 2015, performances will be presented in the following locations:
Ottawa performance May 30, 7:30 p.m. Dominion-Chalmers United Church.
Montreal performance May 23, 7:30 p.m.,Église Saint- Jean-Baptiste, 4237 Avenue Henri Julien, Montréal
